I can't believe it's been seven weeks since Fall B started! Time during the MBA, unfortunately, flies at the speed of light.
Last weekend I went to Toronto and returned Sunday night. It was an awesome weekend to get to know the city and watch the UFC tournament live! On our way back (there others five Rossers who have gone with me) we stopped by a Brazilian steakhouse near Detroit. Boy, it's good to have some real good food!
Although tired, I still had to work on a MO paper due Tuesday. And eventually I had to practice some cases to get prepared for the upcoming interview season on January. In the middle of everything we entered the most terrible week ever: the finals week!
All right, I'm kidding. It's not that scary. It's just that there's so much going on in your life that you feel you have time to study for the tests. This week I have both MO and Marketing Management tests, and next week Valuation, which to me is the best course so far! It really makes you think logically about the several assumptions you need to make when analyzing whether to buy or sell a company, and how you can strategically approach that!
One interesting fact that happens during the recruiting is that you connect the dots for the first time during the MBA. When I arrived in Ann Arbor 4 months ago, and started Fall A in which I had core classes such as Finance, Statistics, Microeconomy and Strategy; you struggle to see how the disciplines correlate with one another. But then when you arrive in Fall B, taking MO and Marketing, as well as other elective; you're able to start to see how everything is related. And that's the beauty of recruiting! When you're preparing for the interview, whether it's for Investment Banking, Consulting or Brand Management (and everything else); you push yourself so much during the preparation that you're constantly using and reviewing several concepts that you learned so far. And it's a very good feeling!
Tomorrow is going to be my last day of classes! My section is engaging to wear absurd, funny, weird and colored sweaters during classes... And this time of the year everyone is excited with the Xmas season! LAst week we had our Secret Santa. Although I cannot say what I bought (for obvious reasons of the person finding out who I am), it was fun to having a friend of mine delivering my gift to the person I was matched with. And even funnier was that nobody was able to find me during the week to give the gift that I received :)
Later this week there'll be Xmas dinner!
Hope everyone enjoy this holidays and take some rest from the Round 1 interview season. For those applying for Round 2, take some rest as well. The sadiest thing would be to spend time writing wessays while your family is eating a bunch of food without you :)
