When Paulo was applying for MBA programs in 2009 I knew that as a non-citizen, I couldn't work in the U.S. In Brazil I had worked long days in finance, but in the U.S. I found I needed to develop new hobbies. So I decided after coming from Brazil to just try to enjoy the experience.
After we moved in August 2010, I realized that I had to learn how to cook and take care of the day-to-day operations of the household. In addition, I took an English course in November and December of 2010. Also, I volunteered at the Ross Leadership Initiative (the orientation program for new MBA students) in September and at the Hispanic and Latinos Business Student Association Conference.
Last year I joined International Neighbors to discuss books, painting and meet different people.
Finally, I'm going to the gym and I also get together every week with the other Latin American partners.
It hasn't always been easy to make this adjustment, but the Ross community has been incredibly welcoming.
